The centrepiece of downtown Orlando: a park of some 43 acres around a lake formed by a sinkhole, with a paved path of just under a mile encircling it. The fountain at the centre is the city's emblem and is illuminated after dark. Swan-shaped pedal boats are hired from a boathouse on the western shore, and a resident population of swans and other waterfowl lives on the water. An amphitheatre on the eastern side stages free and ticketed events, and a farmers' market runs on Sunday mornings at the south-eastern corner. The park adjoins Thornton Park, a small grid of restaurants and independent shops, and a Chinese-style pavilion given by Orlando's twin city stands on the northern shore. Admission is free and the paths are lit at night.
