Queijadas da Sapa, formally Fábrica das Verdadeiras Queijadas da Sapa, has been hand-making Sintra’s cheese-and-cinnamon queijada pastries since 1756, close to the train station.
The small, round tarts — a thin pastry shell filled with requeijão cheese, egg, sugar and cinnamon — are sold straight from the bakery counter as well as through other outlets around town, but this is where they’ve been made the longest.
It’s a grab-and-go stop rather than a sit-down café, ideal for picking up a box to eat on the walk up towards the palaces.
Local tip: Buy a small box rather than a single pastry — queijadas travel well and make an easy edible souvenir.
