Mutrah Fort

★ 4.5

Mutrah Fort sits on a rocky outcrop above the Mutrah Corniche and the souq, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century to guard the harbour. A 2 OMR ticket gets you up onto the walls for one of the best harbour views in the city, taking in the corniche, the souq and the Riyam incense burner in one sweep.

Local tip: Go close to sunset for the harbour view, then walk down into the souq once it reopens for the evening.
