Santo Spirito  •  ★ 4.4  •  $$

Osteria Santo Spirito is a restaurant on Piazza Santo Spirito in the Oltrarno district of Florence, opposite the Renaissance basilica of Santo Spirito, whose interior was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The dining rooms are deep red and contemporary in fitting, a deliberate contrast with the square outside. The kitchen serves Tuscan-influenced dishes in modern presentation and is best known for oven-baked gnocchi in a sauce of soft cheeses flavoured with truffle; beef fillet with truffle and roast duck in cream also appear on the menu. It trades daily from 11am to midnight, serving through the afternoon without a break between lunch and dinner. Prices sit at the higher end for the Oltrarno, reflecting the truffle dishes and the position on the square. It is about ten minutes on foot from the Ponte Vecchio, or reached by bus routes C3 and D. The piazza holds a small morning market and is one of the main gathering points in the Oltrarno in the evening.
