Bailey’s Antiques & Aloha Shirts

Reputedly the largest collection of aloha shirts anywhere, packed rail upon rail into a cluttered shop on Kapahulu Avenue since the 1980s. Stock runs from inexpensive modern reprints to rare 1930s and 1940s silk and rayon originals kept behind glass, with prices to match, alongside vintage dresses, hats, ephemera and general bric-a-brac. Shirts are sorted loosely by colour and era rather than size, so browsing takes time, though staff will usually find things on request. The shop is a short walk from the Diamond Head end of Waikiki and sits on the same stretch as Leonard's Bakery. Anyone interested in the history of the garment, its Japanese, Filipino and Hawaiian origins in the tailoring trade of 1930s Honolulu, will find more of it here than in most museum displays.
