Mailan Putiikki has been Äkäslompolo's go-to souvenir and handicraft shop since 1970, started by Maila Alatalo and still trading under the family name. It's grown into the largest shop of its kind in Ylläs, stocking Lapland handicrafts, knitwear and gifts rather than generic ski-resort tat.
Expect wool and reindeer-hide items, wooden kuksa cups and knives, and locally made textiles alongside the usual postcards and fridge magnets.
Local tip: It's easy to walk past if you're focused on the restaurants opposite – look for the low timber building on Tunturintie itself.
