Alchemia

Alchemia is a bar at ul. Estery 5 on Plac Nowy in Kazimierz, Krakow's former Jewish quarter. It was among the first venues to open as the district revived as a nightlife area in the late 1990s, and is widely credited with establishing Kazimierz's reputation for low-lit, atmospheric bars. The interior is a warren of small rooms furnished with mismatched antique pieces, worn sofas, dripping candles and assorted objects, with a theatrical rather than designed character. A basement space hosts live music, including concerts tied to Krakow's jazz and klezmer festivals. An adjoining restaurant, Alchemia od Kuchni, serves food until 22:00 from Sunday to Wednesday and until 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday. The bar itself works as a cafe by day and a drinking venue in the evening. Plac Nowy outside is known for its round market hall and street-food hatches, a short walk from the Old Town across the river.
