Historic Westside Legacy Park

A small public park in the Historic Westside, the neighbourhood north-west of downtown where Black residents were effectively confined by segregation from the 1930s and which became the centre of Black civic and musical life in the city. The park opened in December 2021 and honours Nevadans from that community, educators, doctors, entertainers and campaigners, with plaques, portraits and public artwork set along the walkways, with new honorees added each year. There is also a playground and seating. Admission is free and the gates are open through the day. The surrounding blocks retain traces of the old Jackson Street business district and the site of the Moulin Rouge, which in 1955 became the city's first racially integrated casino. It presents a version of Las Vegas history the Strip largely omits.
