Mercatino di Antignano

Mercatino di Antignano is a street market in the Vomero district of Naples, occupying the streets between Piazza Medaglie d'Oro and Piazza degli Artisti, including sections of Via Luca Giordano. It trades daily except Monday, generally from around 7.30am into the early afternoon. Stalls sell clothing, footwear, handbags, household linen, cosmetics, fish and second-hand and vintage pieces including lace, at low fixed prices, with vendors known for loud and informal sales patter. The market takes its name from the old borgo of Antignano, whose name derives from Antonianium, the estate of a Roman landowner. The area was later favoured by Neapolitan artists and intellectuals, among them the humanist Giovanni Pontano, and lies near the Bourbon-era Muro del Finanziere, a wall built to control smuggling. The borgo now functions as a market by day and a district of bars and restaurants in the evening. Piazza Medaglie d'Oro station on Metro Line 1 is about two minutes from the edge of the market.
