The Wellborn

A small hotel on Lucerne Circle, a ring of historic buildings just south of the downtown core. Accommodation is split between the Wellborn Suites, a 1947 art deco apartment block converted into studios and one-bedroom units with kitchenettes, and the Norment-Parry House, understood to be the oldest surviving house in Orlando, which holds a handful of individually decorated rooms. A bar and kitchen occupies the ground floor and courtyard and is used by residents of the neighbourhood as much as by guests, under mature oaks. The arrangement suits longer stays and travellers who prefer period buildings to resort towers. Interstate 4 passes close by, so some traffic noise carries, but Lake Eola, Thornton Park and the downtown restaurants are within a ten-minute walk.
