A courtyard complex of formerly derelict buildings, once an ambulance station and residential blocks, brought back into use from 2018 by the NGO Free Riga, which negotiates temporary occupation of empty property and hands it to cultural and community tenants. Around fourteen operations now share the site, among them galleries, a two-storey bar hosting live music, comedy and poetry, a dumpling canteen, a jazz and classical venue, and a street food hall. The courtyard is free to enter and heavily covered in murals. It lies just outside the tourist centre, north-east of the Art Nouveau district, and remains a working example of the group’s approach to Riga’s vacant housing stock.
