A community gallery and arts venue run by Casa Familiar, a nonprofit that has worked in San Ysidro since the 1970s on housing, immigration advice, health and education for a population living directly against the border. The Front occupies a converted house on West San Ysidro Boulevard, a few hundred metres from the San Ysidro port of entry, the busiest land crossing in the western hemisphere. Exhibitions address border life, migration, and Mexican and Chicano art, and are free to view. The organisation also runs an adjoining performance space and a programme of free workshops and classes for local residents, from ceramics and drawing to children's dance. The trolley Blue Line connects downtown San Diego to San Ysidro directly.
