The Quran Gate is the oldest of Shiraz's city gates, built under the Buyid ruler Adud al-Dawla over a thousand years ago, though what stands today owes more to a Zand-era rebuild. It takes its name from a chamber above the archway that once held two handwritten Qurans, placed there so travellers could pass beneath for good fortune.
Local tip: Those manuscripts now sit in the Pars Museum; the gate itself is a quick, free stop, easily combined with Baba Koohi's tomb nearby.
