Fort Canning Tree Tunnel Singapore

The Fort Canning Tree Tunnel is a spiral staircase and underground pedestrian passage at the edge of Fort Canning Park in Singapore, at 51 Canning Rise, linking the park above to street level below. A rain tree, Samanea saman, overhangs the opening, and looking upward from the foot of the stairwell frames its canopy inside the circular wall, which is what has made the spot widely photographed. Access is free and unticketed, since the staircase forms part of the public park, and no booking or queue system has been introduced. Informal queues have nonetheless become normal: visitors report people gathering from around 07:00, with the best light for photography between 09:00 and 10:00 and waits of up to an hour at peak times. Arriving before 08:00 avoids most of this. The site is reached on foot from Dhoby Ghaut MRT station through the Fort Canning Link underpass, or from Bencoolen MRT station via Exit C onto Canning Walk. It takes only a few minutes to see, and is best combined with the rest of Fort Canning Park.
