Mercato Monti is a weekend market for independent design and vintage fashion, held in a covered space at Via Leonina 46/48 in Rione Monti, a few minutes on foot from the Colosseum and from Cavour station on Metro line B. It was established in 2009 and trades on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 20:00, with free entry. Stalls carry work by young Italian designers alongside vintage clothing, accessories, handmade jewellery, illustrated prints and second-hand records, and the roster of traders rotates from week to week rather than staying fixed, so stock differs between visits. The setting is indoor, which makes it a reliable option in poor weather when the open-air markets elsewhere in the city thin out. Rione Monti around it is one of the more rewarding parts of central Rome for independent shopping, with vintage dealers and small boutiques concentrated along Via del Boschetto, Via Urbana and Via dei Serpenti, and a dense run of bars and trattorias for afterwards.
