The only working amethyst mine in Europe open to visitors, high on Lampivaara fell inside Pyhä-Luosto National Park above Luosto.
A guided trip up the fell, a short talk on how the stone formed, then you dig your own amethyst and keep one that fits your palm.
Local tip: Departures are hourly in high summer and fewer in autumn and winter. Tickets are sold at the fell café if you have not booked.
