The Arg of Tabriz is what remains of a colossal Qajar-era brick citadel, its ruined walls rising dramatically on a hill above the old riverbed at the edge of the city centre.
It once counted among the largest brick structures anywhere in the Islamic world, and although only a fraction survives, the scale is still obvious from ground level. Access to the site and the views over Tabriz from around it are free.
Local tip: Go for the view over the city as much as the ruin itself; it is one of the better free vantage points in Tabriz.
