Timber Pizza Company

Timber Pizza Company

Began as a mobile wood-fired oven at farmers' markets before taking a permanent site on Upshur Street, a short commercial strip that has become the focus of Petworth's food scene. The pizzas are cooked at high heat in a wood oven and lean towards blistered, slightly charred bases; toppings mix conventional combinations with less orthodox ones involving squash, feta and honey. The room is small, informal and noisy, with counter service and a handful of tables, and the crowd is overwhelmingly local. Petworth is roughly three miles north of the Mall and rarely appears on visitor itineraries, which is much of its appeal. Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro on the Green and Yellow lines is a few minutes away on foot.
