Bioluminescence Clear Kayak Tour

A two-hour night paddle in transparent kayaks or on clear paddleboards from Kiwanis Island Park on the Indian River Lagoon, roughly an hour east of Orlando. Between late spring and early autumn the water holds dinoflagellates that emit blue light when disturbed; in the cooler months the effect comes instead from comb jellies, which glow when handled. Guides lead the group away from shore lighting and explain the biology behind the phenomenon. Single and tandem kayaks and paddleboards are available, with buoyancy aids, safety lights, dry bags and insect repellent supplied, along with beginner instruction. Photographs taken during the trip are provided afterwards. Departures are timed either for sunset or for full darkness, the latter giving the stronger display.
