Club A

Club A is a Bucharest legend — a student-run rock club in the old town that has been going strong since 1969, making it one of the longest-lived nightspots in the country. Founded and still run in the spirit of the city's architecture students, it is a beloved, unpretentious institution where generations of Bucharesters have danced to rock, indie and the classics.

Down in its buzzing, no-frills rooms the soundtrack is guitar-driven and gloriously un-trendy — rock and roll, indie, oldies and student-party anthems — pulling a friendly, mixed-age crowd of students, alumni and old regulars. Cheap drinks, a democratic door and a genuinely warm atmosphere make it a refreshing change from flashier clubs.

Local tip: It gets busy and boisterous at weekends, so come late and ready to dance rather than pose. It is cash-friendly and unpretentious — dress however you like and just enjoy the music.
