Hannibal Square Heritage Center

A small museum and gallery on West New England Avenue documenting Hannibal Square, the historically Black neighbourhood established on the west side of Winter Park in the 1880s and much altered by later redevelopment. It grew out of a photographic and oral history project and holds the resulting collection of family photographs, recorded testimony and portraits of long-standing residents, shown alongside changing exhibitions by regional artists, many of them African American. The centre is operated by Crealde School of Art, a non-profit art school, in partnership with the city, and admission is free. It also runs talks, workshops and an annual folk and outsider art festival. The building stands among the restaurants and shops now occupying the western end of New England Avenue, minutes from Park Avenue.
