Mead Botanical Garden

A garden and nature reserve of some 47 acres named after the botanist Theodore Luqueer Mead, run by a non-profit organisation in partnership with the city. Much of it is deliberately unmanicured: boardwalks cross wetland, a creek runs through the site, and there are stands of bamboo, a butterfly garden, a greenhouse and a community allotment area alongside more formal planting. Birdlife is good, particularly in the wetland section, and the paths are used by walkers and runners as well as visitors. An amphitheatre hosts outdoor performances, and plant sales and seasonal events are held through the year. Admission is free, with donations invited, and there is parking on site. It sits close to the Orlando city boundary, a short distance from the Winter Park SunRail station.
