Miesto laboratorija, or City Laboratory, is a community and sustainability centre in the former Sapieha hospital complex in Antakalnis, beside Sapiegu Park. Run as a social enterprise, it combines a hydroponic growing system, workshop and exhibition spaces, and a kitchen that cooks with surplus and short-dated produce; income from catering and events funds the greater part of its educational work. The programme includes school visits, repair and gardening workshops, talks on urban sustainability and communal neighbourhood dinners that draw people from across the city. The building opens around scheduled events rather than keeping standard shop hours, so contacting the team in advance is necessary. It lies about twenty minutes on foot from the Old Town.
