Anacostia Arts Center

A converted commercial building on Good Hope Road run by ARCH Development Corporation, a non-profit set up to support small enterprise and the arts east of the Anacostia River. Opened in 2013, it contains a black-box theatre, a gallery and a set of small retail units let at subsidised rates to local independent traders, which have included clothing, art and wellness businesses; tenants change, so the current mix varies. Exhibitions in the main gallery rotate and are free to view, and the theatre stages work by small local companies. The centre is a short walk from the Frederick Douglass house and the Anacostia Community Museum, making it a reasonable starting point for a half-day in the district.
