A bookshop, cafe and small screening room opposite Howard University, founded in 1998 by the Ethiopian-born film-maker Haile Gerima and his wife Shirikiana Aina. The name comes from the Akan concept of retrieving what has been left behind, also the title of Gerima's 1993 film. Stock concentrates on African and African diaspora literature, history and film, including independent titles and documentaries that circulate through few other retailers. The cafe serves Ethiopian coffee and light food, and the space hosts screenings, readings and discussions, frequently free or by donation. It functions as a meeting place for students and long-standing residents alike. Shaw-Howard University Metro is roughly ten minutes away on foot.
