Update: This spot appears to be permanently closed. Here are similar places we love in Ploiesti:
Doroftei Pub was the Ploiești bar of Leonard Doroftei, the much-loved Romanian world boxing champion nicknamed 'the Little Cobra'. Opened in 2006 in the city centre and at one point expanded to hold around 350 people, it was as much a shrine to his career as a place for a drink — the walls hung with his belts, medals and fight photos, and Doroftei himself often working the room.
It ran for years as a lively local haunt before a long-running dispute with the city hall brought it to an end and the champion left Ploiești, later opening a boxing club under his name in Bucharest. The central-square spot is no longer his pub.
