The Central Market is the Europe’s largest indoor market and bazaar of 1930 containing the brightest and most diverse food-stuffs from land and sea in Baltic countries. We will get close to the local food culture and traditions by getting to know the typical and unique products here. It's historic value lies in five pavilions transformed from mighty Zeppelin airship hangars of the World War I.
Local people are selling and buying goods here in their daily life and it will be hard to find another place where so many fresh vegetables and fruits are sold right from the local farms, as well as seasonal produce from woodland and even swamps.
The guide will explain the characteristics of the national cuisine and food. During the tour you will try delicacies from different pavilions, and you can be treated with Latvian beer or rye drink ‘kvas’ (ask the guide about products). Bazaar tasting includes cheese or smoked products, pickled vegetables & fish.
After Market visit we will have a good look around historic Warehouse quarter Spīķeri, now home of many creative industries. Daugava river Promenade will offer great looks of the mightiest river in all the Baltic countries.
