A covered market hall in the city's former wholesale food district, reopened in 2012 after decades of decline and now holding several dozen independent traders under one roof. The mix runs from oyster and empanada counters to a butcher, a cheesemonger, a Korean grocer and stalls selling books, ceramics and homeware, with communal seating in the middle. Surrounding warehouses have been converted into shops, galleries, a cinema and a rooftop bar, and a weekly FRESHFARM producers' market operates in the district. The area remains a working food-distribution zone in parts, and construction is ongoing. It is busiest at weekend lunchtimes. NoMa-Gallaudet U Metro is about ten minutes away on foot, across the railway bridge.
